History is a complex and interconnected realm. Causes and effects are subjective and impacts are felt but rarely seen. In Counterculture: The Hippie Movement, I aimed to celebrate the hippies through an honest lens and to place them in both world and American history. Their legacy is not simply one of love and equality nor is it just costumes and drugs. They grew out of an intolerant society to challenge authority, unify subgroups, and to give peace a chance.
